Ontario Commercial Incentive — Save on Energy Retrofit Program (Solar Photovoltaic)
Program: Save on Energy — Retrofit Program (Prescriptive Solar Incentive)
Who qualifies: Ontario commercial, institutional, and industrial customers (businesses, nonprofits, municipal and large facilities).
Purpose: Incentivize behind-the-meter solar PV systems that reduce onsite load rather than exporting to the grid.
Incentive structure:
• Micro-generation systems (≤10 kW-DC): $1,000/kW-DC
• Small/medium systems (>10 kW-AC up to 1 MW-AC): $860/kW-AC
⚠ Incentive capped at 1 MW-AC per project and up to 50% of eligible project costs.
Key requirements:
✔ Must submit Retrofit application before ordering equipment
✔ Complete grid connection approval with your LDC
✔ Finish installation and final paperwork within 24 months of pre-approval
Use case: Best for large rooftops, parking canopies, warehouses, industrial facilities
