Ontario Residential Incentive — Home Renovation Savings (Solar & Battery)

Program: Home Renovation Savings Solar Incentive (No energy assessment required)
Who qualifies: Ontario homeowners (18+, own occupied dwelling connected to Ontario grid).
What’s covered:
Solar PV rebate: Up to $5,000 (approx. $1,000/kW)
Battery storage rebate: Up to $5,000 (~$300/kWh)
Total potential rebate: Up to $10,000 (solar + battery)
Rules:
✔ Only new installations; cannot expand or replace existing systems
✔ Systems must be designed for load displacement (no net export)
✔ Battery storage must be installed with new solar
Process: Pre-approval, permits, installation, final rebate claim

Federal Incentive — Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit (CT ITC)

Program: Canada Revenue Agency — Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit
Who it helps: Canadian corporations and qualifying trusts investing in clean technology assets (including solar and battery storage).
What it offers:

  • Up to 30% refundable tax credit of the capital cost for clean tech property placed in service 2023–2033.

  • 15% credit for property placed in 2034.
    Eligible assets include:
    • Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
    • Stationary energy storage (e.g., batteries)
    • Heat pumps, geothermal, EV chargers, and other zero-emission equipment
    Important features:
    ✔ Refundable credit — money comes back even if tax payable is low
    ✔ Applies to new clean technology property used in Canada
    ✔ If sold or exported within 10 years, some credit may be recaptured
    Best used with: Capital cost allowance (CCA), provincial/utility incentives, greening strategies
